The Calore River Valley is very fertile, it is surmounted by the Alburni
Mountains, with their white peaks, that Virgil defined “Ilicibus
virentem Alburbum” to underline their white colour and the presence
of prosperous woods.
The houses were built around castles, noble palaces or the bell towers of the
churches. In the valley there are many towns: Aquara, Serre, Ottati, Corleto
Monforte, Postiglione, Controne, Sicignano degli Alburni, Bellosguardo, Roscigno,
Sant’Angelo a Fasanella and Castelcivita. These towns have interesting
archaeological areas, wonderful landscapes, a nice folklore, tasteful and delicious
typical products, beautiful colours.
